“Kaulele”
Kaulele means to take flight. This sculpture is meant to express a sense of movement and progress. It is an interplay of two forces, the Waves symbolizing Hawaii in all its unique forms and the Hawaiian Hawk, island cousin to the Bald Eagle, representing the students who learn to fly through their experiences here in Hawaii, their studies at school and their contact with the nature and culture of the Islands. It is through these interactions that they begin to test their wings, learn to fly and eventually soar.
Commissioned by the Hawaii SFCA for Daniel K. Inouye Elementary School in Wahiawa, Hawaii Completed October 2018.
